Getting Dressed

June30

The past couple of days Sweet Pea has wanted Mickey to get dressed in the morning when he does. So we pulled out our storage box with infant clothes and found a shirt, a diaper, and some socks. Ever since Sweet Pea has put clothes on him in the morning and takes them off in the evening. He finds it very fascinating that Mickey can wear a diaper just like he can.

Pretend?

June27

Today we were swimming at the pool and Sweet Pea used the big spoon we brought from home to ride as a horse. So being the good mom I am I tried to play along and talk about his “horse”. But he just looked at me funny and said “No Momma, it’s spoon!”.

Getting Out of the Heat!

June26

This past week the temperature has risen to over 100 degrees and we just can’t run our air conditioner all day long so Sweet Pea and I have found a few places to go and play during the day and get out of the heat. We go play in the kids section at Borders, the pool, Half Price books, and, Sweet Pea’s favorite, the play place at the mall! Here we are at the mall:

How do you feed your dog?

June23

While Sweet Pea and I were at my parents house a few weeks ago, my dad came up to Sweet Pea and asked if he wanted to help him feed the dog. He looked a little confused and he kept looking from the dog, to my dad, to the dog food bowl. After a few seconds he walked over to the dog food bowl, picked up a stray piece of dog food from an earlier feeding, and threw it at the dog. Of course we all laughed and my dad took his hand and properly showed him how to feed the dog and we moved on to the next thing.

After thinking about it here is what strikes me about the situation. Because we don’t have pets, Sweet Pea had no idea what was involved in feeding a dog. But he took what he did know and “fed” the dog by throwing the stray piece of food to him. At what point in childhood do we lose the ability to think like that? I did multiple internships where students as young as second grade had already lost the ability to take prior knowledge to try to figure something out. The just wanted me to tell them the answer without having to do any work. Hopefully over the next few years I can nurture this ability in Sweet Pea rather than hinder it.

GG and Papa!

June22

My grandparents made a short day trip to town and we had so much fun! Sweet Pea and GG spent most of the time reading…even in the car!

We went and played in the kids section at Borders and then added a few books to our home collection:

We went to the Children’s Museum and Sweet Pea dug for dinos:

Rundown

June20

The past few weeks have been kinda crazy so here is a rundown of what is going on:

Charles has officially started his first class at the seminary. It is an online class, which is nice because he does most of his work after Sweet Pea and I have gone to bed. Half the time I don’t even remember he is taking a class unless he has to go study at the library or something. He is also still loving his job at the seminary as the web designer.

I will be 33 weeks pregnant this coming Monday. Last week I had a doctor appointment and everything is moving along nicely. The baby is turned head down and hopefully will stay that way until she is ready to be born! I wrote a few weeks ago about the possibility of switching doctors and we finally made the decision to go ahead a do that and it was the best decision. Our new doctor is wonderful and very on bored with our birth plan. We are planning an unmedicated birth and he is very encouraging. It is a wonderful change from the previous doctor who was insisting on an epidural the second I got to the hospital.

The lease on our apartment is up July 31. We are yet again debating what to do. For the four years we have been married Charles and I have moved every 9 months to a year because of people raising rent. Sweet Pea has actually already had three different addressed in his short two years of life. The the debate continues: renting vs. buying. We have looked at a few houses the last couple days and have realized that we would love to buy. The hard part comes in finding something we can afford in a decent neighborhood that is not falling apart. Pretty challenging. But we are praying and trying hard to trust that the Lord will lead us in the right direction.

Sweet Pea is a bundle of energy. It’s almost like the day he turned two someone flipped a switch and he turned from a baby to a kid always on the run. He now loves going to the pool and his absolute favorite toy right now is a stick. At least those are cheap.

And I changed the design on my blog. :)

Toy Store!

June13

My parents keep a basket of toys in the corner of their living room for Sweet Pea to play with whenever we visit. When we got to their house at the beginning of last week Sweet Pea pulled them out and my dad immediately deemed them as baby toys and whisked us off to the toy store! How much fun Sweet Pea and his Papa had picking out some “big boy” toys. We have never been to the toy store with Sweet Pea…I think it was what his version of heaven would be. Every morning when I got him out of the crib there was no more “good morning, momma!”. It turned into “cars? race?”!
