Room Swap
The kiddos have now officially shared a room for 24 hours.
It is a little tricky to set up a family of four in an 800 square apartment and make sure everyone’s needs are met, but I think we have finally done it. Little Peanut originally roomed with us. I hadn’t planned on moving her out so early (Sweet Pea was with us for almost a year…in our bed), but she was doing so well and it got to the point where I had no space to go to when I needed some time by myself. So we moved her to the living room. This ended up not working because Charles needed a place to study after we all went to bed and the logical place would be the living room. He ended up studying in the hallway because the lights and noises were starting to disturb Peanut.
So last night we decided to put them in the same room and just hope for the best. Well it worked great! We also changed Sweet Pea’s crib to a toddler bed. We weren’t going to do this until he tried to climb out, but I need him to be able to just get up so he doesn’t have to yell for me and in the process wake the baby.
Since it was the first time in a toddler bed we stacked some pillows next to the bed in case he fell out. Good thing we did because when Charles went to check on him around at around 2 in the morning he was curled up in the pillows on the floor!
Nap time has worked well also. Peanut goes down for a nap around 1:30 and after she falls asleep I bring Sweet Pea in around 2. He sleeps until around 4 and she sleeps until around 5.
I know it has only been 24 hours and a lot could change, but I hope that things stay as smooth as they are.
Here are some pictures I took with my phone in the middle of the night. I wanted to get a picture of Sweet Pea sleeping in his toddler bed for the first time. As soon as I snapped the picture his head popped up.
Here he is after he fell off the bed and curled up with the pillows. I wish they were better quality but it was dark and these were taken on my phone.
{Edited to say: Sweet Pea just fell out of the bed again. This time he hit his head and screamed and woke the baby. We are turning his toddler bed back into a crib
}

i wouldnt give up so soon! little man fell out that first week about 3 times but hasnt since! they just have to get used to it! good luck!
That is all so cute!!! I bet they will love sharing a room; we put the boys together while we lived in AL, and they had so much fun “talking” to each other in the mornings.
Also, AJ fell out of his toddler bed 4 times the first few weeks, but after that he has had no problems (and now he is in a big bed). You could also see about a half rail to put on it-I think you can find some cheap ones at walmart or target.
Love the pictures; that was a great idea to get some of the first night!
get one of those bed rails. we used one for both the girls. you can get them at kid to kid for like $8.
Sounds like lots of transitions, but all good ones. We have lots of friends whose kids share a room. It seems to me that it makes them closer.
I am excited about them being in the same room! It actually works really well…I hope they love it as they get older!
The only problem right now is Sweet Pea falling about of bed. We always put Peanut down first so she can fall asleep before Sweet Pea comes in. So if he wakes her up it is REALLY hard to get her back to sleep and it messes with her night and in turn mine. We actually did go to the store to look for a bed rail but the box says they are not for toddler bed, just for regular sized beds. So I am going to keep looking for something. That and Sweet Pea is scared of his bed now…and I don’t want to associate that with bedtime. Not good. Dilemmas…
Yay! A big boy bed!!! We have that crib and Im sure its supposed to come with rails. We used to put long pillows next to Jordie (btween her and the edge of the bed) so she could think that someone was sleeping next to her and so that she wouldnt fall out.
