As far as I understand it, they are never sure. It is a function of researching which strains will probably be the most dangerous in any given year, and then guessing.
Ding ding! You are correct. I saw the cartoon and thought it was funny. Too many people think that getting the flu vaccine will keep them healthy, but they are really just semi-protected against one of many strains of the virus. Also, I think the cartoon shows us that to many people get vaccines without knowing anything about them. Which is kinda sad.
That is exactly why I don’t get flu shots. So far, I’ve been lucky in avoiding the flu of any kind for years- and I work with the public.
Headaches seem to be my constitutional weakness. Thank goodness for Excedrin migraine.
